Home of The Twisters

Cartersville Twisters Gymnastics has been training young athletes  for over 30 years- both boys and girls.  As part of the City Park & Recreation Department, we offer a variety of programs from recreational classes to competitive teams for your blossoming gymnast - age 2-18. Our coaches have been training young athletes here at our gym for over 20 years. Their experience and training are unmatched in the area, and gymnasts travel from miles away to train with the best.

Our mission is to to grow your child to a confident and focused athlete. Through hard work and dedication, your gymnast will learn valuable skills such as patience, perseverance, pride, and team spirit. Whether it be a recreational class, a birthday party or competitive gymnastics, your athlete will have fun while learning life lessons.  Consider becoming a part of the Twisters Gymnastics family!

About Us

2022 Cartersville Twisters Gymnastics

The mission of the Twisters is to provide competitive gymnasts with opportunities for social and physical development in an atmosphere of sportsmanship, through a well-managed program that is professionally staffed by the Cartersville Parks and Recreation Department and parent-supported through the Twisters Booster Club. As a year-round sport, the Cartersville Twisters gymnastics team is entering the thirtieth year of competition. We have made great strides in developing strong competitive teams.

We compete within the USA Gymnastics (USAG), Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs (USAIGC). Our competitive facility (located directly behind the Civic Center on the corner of Cherokee and Lee) is among the best in the state. The Cartersville Gymnastics Center was the Pre-Olympic training site for the 1996 Men’s Olympic Gymnastics Team from Belarus. Our facility benefited from a grant from the Governor’s office in preparation for the Olympic Games. The Booster Club funded a trip for the optional girls to compete in Munich, Germany and train both in Germany and Switzerland’s Olympic Training Centers. Our boys and girls continue the tradition of success in the competitive arena.

This past season we had 24 State Champions. 57 gymnasts advanced to the Regional Competition and 3 became Regional Champions! 2 competed in the USA Gymnastics Men’s Nationals, including a National Event Champion as well as Silver Medal Winner in All-Around! This past year was especially special, where Brody Malone competed in the America’s Cup and the P&G Championships!

We have sent six young men and women on gymnastics scholarships – Lindsay Bourdon to the University of Michigan, Kristen O’Shields to the University of Kentucky, Lauren Johnson and Mariel Box to the University of Georgia and Melanie Root to Oklahoma University. Mary Beth Box is currently with the Gym Dogs at the University of Georgia while Christopher Root competes at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

How did this happen? The City gave full support to this program and with the help and cooperation of the Booster Club, knowledgeable and caring coaches, devoted and determined gymnasts, and the support of our community sponsors these successful and positive results have occurred. We hosted three competitions in which one thousand boys and girls competed. This year, we will host three more competitions. Events such as these bring economic support to our Booster Club as well as the community of Cartersville along with a strong sense of pride. Thanks to the support of community sponsors of the Booster Club and the City Parks and Recreation Department, we now have an exciting program that fulfills the Cartersville Twisters Mission Statement.
